Professional Experience 2011- Present: Assistant Professor, Universidad de los Andes Research Interests My research interests focus around the Mesozoic marine reptiles and in particular the advanced members of the Sauropterygia (the plesiosaurs), and can be sub-divided into three broad areas: Palaeobiology – understanding plesiosaurs as living organisms. How plesiosaurs moved, sensed their environment, selected and captured their prey, their reproductive strategies, and the diseases these animals suffered from. Palaeoecology – understanding how plesiosaurs interacted with their abiotic environment and other living organisms. I have a particular interest in the Colombian marine reptile fauna, and what this can tell us about the ecology of Lower Cretaceous, for instance in relation to regional and global anoxic events.
History of Science – plesiosaurs have been studied for almost 200 years, and I am interested in how our understanding of the palaeontology and palaeobiology of these organisms has changed through time. This includes study of the lives and times of private individuals and scientists that have collected and studied these animals, as well as the history of individual specimens. |

Professional Experience 2014 – Present: Assistant Professor, Universidad de los Andes Research Interests
I am interested in the physics of the Earth’s crust and how it deforms in response to both short and long-timescale forcing. Current research areas include: active tectonics, geodesy, radar interferometry (InSAR), volcanic deformation processes (magma transport, dike intrusions), and the crust’s response to human activities such as groundwater withdrawal, resource extraction and carbon capture and storage. |
